Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is Mips® Integra Split?

A: The Mips® Integra Split is an evolution of the Mips Integra that splits the energy-absorbing layer and places the Low Friction Layer between the moving layers. The movement between these layers is designed to help reduce rotational motion in certain impacts that might otherwise be transferred to the user’s head. Splitting the energy-absorbing layers allows us to custom tune each layer to handle different velocities of impact. The inner layer can be designed to absorb low-speed impacts with a softer material, while the outer layer can be denser and built to withstand higher levels of impact. The integrated design of the Mips Integra Split provides a seamless integration, a comfortable fit and may enable designers to incorporate greater ventilation in the helmet.

Q: How is Mips Integra Split different than other Mips technology?

A: Mips® Essential Core: This technology is designed to help reduce the rotational motion that the head experiences during certain angled impacts. The system includes a low friction layer (LFL) that is placed on the inside of the helmet beneath the padding.

Mips® Evolve Core: Like Mips Essential Core, Mips Evolve Core uses a Low Friction Layer (LFL) that is customized for each helmet and sits between the impact absorbing layer and the padding. The Mips Evolve Core system is distinguished by its ability to function together with ventilation channels and padding to offer exceptional comfort and style. The Mips Evolve Core also utilizes the latest Mips technology to securely hold the LFL in place during use and can be integrated with other advanced adjustment systems.

Mips® Integra Split: This technology uses a unique design that splits the energy-absorbing layer and then molds the Low Friction Layer between the moving layers. The split design allows for increased ventilation design opportunities, hidden integration, and a comfortable fit that aligns each unique helmet design while preforming similar to other Mips technologies.

Q: How does Fox Racing partner with Mips?

A: Mips is a strategic partner that reinforces Fox Racing’s commitment to safety.

Q: What Does “Mips” mean?

A: Mips means a safety system for helmets developed with the intention to reduce rotational motion to the brain in the event of a crash. Research shows that rotational motion involves a greater risk of brain damage than straight impacts. The purpose of Mips® safety system is to add safety in the event of that kind of accident

Q: What Fox Helmets have Mips Integra Split?

A: Fox Racing is the first to market with this new technology. It is featured in the Proframe RS mountain bike helmet and all-new V3 RS motocross helmet.

Q: Does Mips safety system add a lot of weight to the helmet?

A: In general, the weight difference with or without a Mips safety system is relatively small and may not be noticeable to the wearer.
